Local Gem: The Painted Burro

With temperatures in the 30s and snow on the ground, dining outside is in our rearview. But making the move indoors doesn't sound so bad when you add a margarita from The Painted Burro to the mix. We love a margarita with freshly squeezed lime juice to remind us of warm summer days!

THE GEM

The Painted Burro is a Mexican Kitchen and Tequila Bar that serves authentic Latin American dishes. They are located in Somerville’s lively Davis Square on Elm St. They serve brunch and dinner. Yes--they serve huevos rancheros during brunch!

THE VIBE

The ambiance is great for date night or a girls night out with their split-style restaurant layout. Half of the restaurant has seating for dining and the other half is a bar. The lighting is soft and the walls are covered with indigenous Mexican art giving it a warm, authentic feel.

WHAT TO ORDER

When in Mexico, you drink tequila. We like to think the same goes when you’re at the Painted Burro, so try one of their margaritas. They have a variety of intriguing margarita options, like hibiscus or cucumber - all of which are delicious, and we know our margs!

For an appetizer, you can’t go wrong with their chorizo nachos. The combination of guacamole, pork charro beans, cabbage & jalapeño slaw, pimpin’ jalapeños, tres quesos, baja cream, and chipotle mayo you’ll want to lick the plate clean!

If you have any room left, try their Crispy “Baja-Style” fish tacos. They give you one taco with a side of pork charro beans, so the portion size is just enough. Other options available range from enchiladas, tortas, to kale salads and sides of cheese grits.

Check them out and tell us what you think!
