North Conway Travel Guide

North Conway may just be one of the most quintessential New England towns and is the perfect getaway for a winter weekend. Main street is dotted with old school classics including a penny candy general store, one of the last remaining historic 5 and 10 cent stores, and a scenic railroad all set against the backdrop of snow capped mountains. Despite the chilly weather, if the scenery doesn’t capture you, the charm will. There are endless things to do, but here’s a few crowd pleasers to get started.

Ski

Cranmore Mountain Resort is nestled right in the heart of North Conway. Whether you’re a beginner, or been skiing your whole life, Cranmore is perfect for a day on the slopes. And on top of all that, you’re close to many apres ski options downtown. Cranmore also has their Mountain Adventure Park with tubing, a mountain coaster, and other fun adventures for non-skiers, or skiers who just need a break.

Wildcat Mountain is a New Hampshire staple. Wildcat prides itself on the vertical, the views and the fact that it’s a no frills, ski hard kind of mountain. On a bluebird day, you’ll feel like you can touch Tuckerman's Ravine. It’s cold, it’s windy, but boy is it worth it. Swing through the Shannon Door for a pint and a pizza after and you’ll feel like a true Northerner.

Attitash Ski Resort is a family friendly ski resort with plenty of terrain no matter what your skill level. Ski for the day, or stick around and check out their night skiing before checking out a local favorite like Margarita Grille or The Red Parka for apre ski drinks and food.

Shop

If the mountains aren’t your thing, or the wind is whipping a little too hard, check out the outlets and shop free of sales tax in the entire state of NH. From New England favorites like L.L. Bean and Eddie Bauer, to New Balance and Nike, there’s something for everyone here. If you’re in need of a break, check out The Soaking Pot foot spa, or grab a bite at Barley & Salt to energize you for the rest of the day.

Visit Downtown North Conway

It’s cute, it’s quaint, and it’s got a beautiful view. Start your stroll down the White Mountain Highway near Assets Jean Company where you can get custom fitted jeans. Make your way North and you’ll stumble upon White Birch Bookstore, Zebs General Store, and the 5 & 10 where you can by treats from all over New England including hot sauce, maple syrup, homemade pickles, jerky and everything in between.

Frontside Coffee Roasters

Start your day off with a locally roasted cup of coffee, latte or tasty smoothie accompanied by a fresh bagel sandwich. Whether it’s an iced drink on the patio, or a warm, cozy drink on the couch inside, Frontside is a local spot with a flair for good coffee and community gathering.

Moat Mountain Smokehouse & Brewery

Moat Mountain Smokehouse & Brewery has great beer, and a menu with something for everyone. With locally brewed beer and locally smoked everything else, Moat is the perfect local spot for large groups, or dinner for two. If you’re not into BBQ, you can’t go wrong with the pizza, and wraps.

Black Cap Grille

Named after one of North Conway’s most notable family friendly hikes with wonderful views of the valley, Black Cap Grille is reliably tasty. The menu is at times bold and adventurous, but regardless of what newbies they have, you can always get a good burger and fries.
