Book Club Discussion Questions for 'The Last Mrs. Parrish' by Liv Constantine
The book binge continues! The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine is a great one to listen to on Audible while cleaning the house or cooking your latest quarantine cuisine. It’s a juicy fast, easy read with a few twists and turns. While we enjoyed the novel overall, there were a few aspects of the book that made us stop and think — let’s dive into those with our latest book club discussion guide (spoilers ahead)!
This story has two female leads and is written by a woman. Yet, the characters use negative stereotypes of women to bring each other down. Would you consider this a feminist book? Why or why not?
When was the first moment in the story when you thought that things might not be what they seem with Jackson?
The women have different views about Bella’s behaviour — why did the author use this as part of the storyline? Why was there such an emphasis on the differences between the two girls?
Daphnea’s life definitely improves when Jackson starts spending less time at home. This reminded us of people that may currently be stuck at home in quarantine with an abusive partner. What are some of the ways we can help identify abusive relationships and provide support for people in need?
Major themes in the book include assumptions and jealousy. Do you have an example where your first impression of a person didn’t match what you came to find out later?
Which point-of-view did you like reading more? Amber’s or Daphnea’s?
How is the book similar or different than other female-led thrillers you’ve read in recent years (seems as though we’re still in the Gone Girl heyday)!
