JUGS JAMS: Spring in My Step
Did anyone else see the recent New York Times article on Languishing that came out this past month? If you did, then I’m sure you’re thinking that’s relatable, and if you didn’t - you can thank us later once you check it out. Basically what we’re saying is that if you’ve been feeling a little blah lately, you’re not alone - in fact, you’re in good company. In response to Adam Grant’s article on languishing, an article was published on the opposite - Flourishing. Flourishing is the idea that all aspects of a person’s life are good - it’s what everyone is after.. The good news is that we can take actionable steps towards flourishing. Of all the suggestions - finding joy in the simple pleasures and looking for community and connection are the very reasons the JUGS JAMS playlists came into existence several years ago. Getting lost in a song, discovering a new artist, making a fun playlist or attending a concert are simple but can bring so much joy - especially when sharing them with others. So JUGS readers, we encourage you to dive into some of the jams that have got you through your own tough times, brought you joy, made you dance around the living room and share them with the people that matter - make your own community and then dance with them.
Artist on the rise: Celeste
When I first heard Celeste come on my shuffle, I immediately stopped everything. Was it a lullaby? Was it a new Adele song? I was pleasantly surprised that it was neither - it was Celeste - a woman and voice all her own and one that shouldn’t be missed.
On Repeat: Strange Girl, Laura Marling
Have you ever heard one of those albums that instantly grips you - it’s new and yet so familiar and comforting like you’ve known it all along - that’s Strange Girl. It has a newness and uniqueness to it that is unlike another, and yet manages to bring you in like a big ol hug from someone you’ve known forever.
Hometown She-Ro: Lula Wiles
This trio of women from New England have been making a name for themselves in the folk scene. They have had a presence at Newport Folk Festival, and Philadelphia Folk Festival and even received nominations from the Boston Music Awards. They have a strong following but I expect we’ll be seeing a lot more of them.
