Best Bookstagrammers to Follow
Here at Just Us Gals, we are on a continuous journey to decolonize our bookshelves. We’ve learned this isn’t just a one-time task, but should be an unceasing effort on our parts. With that in mind, we’ve been brainstorming ways to make this more ingrained in our lives. One way we found to really increase our appreciation of diverse literature by following some great bookstagram (yes, we’ve found out this is a word) feeds. Since we spend so much time on social media, it makes sense to follow diverse perspectives. Doing this will expose us to new titles that we rarely see on the Top 20 lists, while also immersing us in a diverse literary world beyond just books. It adds to the already pleasurable experience of reading a book, by making it more interactive, as we follow BIPOC bookstagrammers and their stories.
The bookstagram community is warm and supportive, but just like the publishing industry, has a problem with representation. Far too often, book influencers tend to be overwhelmingly white, thereby presenting us with only a certain type of narrative. To broaden our social media horizons, these are just some of the bookstagram accounts we’ve come across that continuously provide us with fresh, diverse content that expands our understanding of the wider world around us!

Taryn has such a fun feed, and her reading runs the gamut, from romance, to YA, to current events. She also works with the Literary League (founded by former Boston Blogger Gabi Valladares!), an online, and in person, book club, and they pick such interesting tomes each month
@lupitareads
Lupita’s feed is a delight to scroll through. She posts about books from various BIPOC authors, but she specifically does a great job highlighting Latinx authors. She also sprinkles in heartwarming photos of her wife and daughter, which makes her feed even more enjoyable!
@sisterhoodexchange
Chika is a psychologist in training, who also manages to read scores of books and run her own blog and book club. Her feed is filled with her reviews of books, such as one she posted recently on Hood Feminism. The account is also peppered with helpful posts such as “How to get out of a reading slump” and “How to be an avid reader and a student:” topics which will intrigue any avid reader!
@longdistancereads
Autumn and Rebecca are childhood best friends and run this account together. They do a brilliant job focusing on indie publishers and authors and have introduced us to so many new BIPOC authors beyond those represented in mainstream publishing!.
@bookswithtay
This account is filled with photos of delicious stacks of books – but it has great content too! Taylor posts short, insightful and succinct reviews of the books she reads, which range from romance to literary fiction.
@kmbooks24
This is one gorgeous bookstagram account. Kalli reads voraciously, whilst also being a whiz at creating stunningly Instagrammable nerdy book photos. She has a great range of books she reviews, with a slant towards fantasy and romance.
Tanya Roy-White is a career changer and decided her mid 30’s was a great time to go back to university to get her Masters in Mental Health. She’s very excited to be a contributor for JUGS and write about the many musings knocking about in her head. She spends an inordinate amount of time thinking about food and books and would be happiest in a hobbit home with tea galore and a never-ending library (and a kitchen with an AGA stove, because, food, but make it fashion).
